YouTube Deja:View is a weekly trivia game that connects marketers with the latest trending videos and invites them to stack up against their industry colleagues. YouTube approached us to create a quick, relevant, and fun game that would challenge players to compete in a head-to-head competition, racing to submit the correct answer and earn extra points for speed.
I worked as the Art Director by leading the website experience as a flexible system that would allow assets to be easily swapped out as the next Internet trend would change every week. I also solved UX/UI challenges as the website expanded to include a global leaderboard, scoring systems, teams, and special themed quizzes for timely trends like the Oscars or Super Bowl ads.
We created a scoring system that would encourage repeat gameplay and incentivize marketers to return each week and rise through the ranks. Every point counts towards a ranking on a global leaderboard, and players earn badges as they advance through the game's levels. We designed these badges in a pop art style that would also act as tongue-in-cheek references to common YouTube trends.
